How to Choose the Right Rug Size

Should a rug be longer than the couch? Generally, your rug should be at least 6″ wider (8″ is ideal) than your sofa on both sides.

A common mistake that people make is purchasing the wrong rug size for their room. If a rug is too small, it will make a space feel too uninviting. If a rug is too large, it will make the room appear too small.

The Purpose of Runner Rugs

Along with adding warmth to your space, a runner can protect your wooden floor and safeguard it from scratches.

The best runner rug material for a kitchen is either a flatweave or vinyl rug. These rug types are typically easier to clean than high pile rugs. If you are interested in learning more about our vinyl rugs, click here to learn more about our collection.

The hallway is another popular place for runner rugs, but not all come in the same size. Measuring is important when you have space constraints. Since most hallways are 3’ wide, typically a 2’3” wide runner would be a good fit.

How to Care for Your Rug

We do not recommend washing your rug in a washing machine. Instead, it is best to professionally clean or spot clean your rug.

A jute rug is easy to clean. Natural fiber rugs show the least dirt, and vacuuming should be enough to keep your rug looking beautiful. A jute rug can’t get wet, so it should never be wet shampooed, or steam cleaned or else it may stain or rot.

A wool rug looks clean, even if it isn’t. Its fabric can hide most dust due to the tiny pockets in its fibres. As a result, it doesn’t need to be cleaned as often as other fabrics.

To keep an indoor/outdoor rug from getting moldy, it is best to clean it with a hose and mild soap. As a rule, you should only leave your outdoor rugs outside in the warmer months.

“We are thrilled to unveil our first-ever line of traditional area rugs and runners as it is a major step in expanding our product portfolio in the home and lifestyle space. Each product will be high-quality and offered at an accessible price point.” - Julia Biancella Au, Co-Founder and CEO
