Q&A With Suzannah Stanley: How to Apply Removable Wallpaper in an Entryway

We are excited to introduce you to Suzannah Stanley, a serious DIYer and blogger behind Create/Enjoy, a DIY blog for a happier life.

Suzannah and her family live in a historic home that was built in the late 1930s. Recently, she decided to renovate her front foyer with peel and stick wallpaper and chose Feather Flock removable wallpaper from our Genevieve Gorder wallpaper collection.

Before tackling this DIY home project, Suzannah admits that her small entryway felt a bit unfinished with its bare white walls. She wanted to find a contemporary wallpaper pattern that would breathe new life into her space while complementing the original light fixture that still hung in her foyer.

When it comes to her historic home, Suzannah likes to balance modern with traditional. Feather Flock is an Art Deco-inspired wallpaper print that features long-necked cranes flying against a light grey sky. Our Feather Flock design from Tempaper reminded her of the shapes from her original light fixture, so it felt like the perfect choice for updating her home.

How to Refresh Your Entryway With Peel and Stick Wallpaper

While many may think of an entryway or mudroom as a pass-through place to hang coats or keys, this small yet stylish room sets the tone for the rest of your home and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Even if your foyer is the smallest room in your home, there are several ways you can show off your personal style by adding a few additions to your space, including furniture, lighting, and wall art.

Finding the right entryway wall decor is always an important decision since it is one of the first things that your guests will see upon entering your home.

If you are looking for unique entryway decorating ideas, consider applying our removable wallpaper available from Tempaper. Peel and stick wallpaper is a quick and affordable way to make a stunning first impression and subtly show off your unique design style.

Q&A With Suzannah Stanley From Create/Enjoy

We were excited to have the opportunity to interview Suzannah after she completed her DIY entryway project. During our Q&S, she took some time to share her professional tips and tricks for applying removable wallpaper in an entryway.

Keep reading to find out how she feels about her home after applying this popular grey and white bird wallpaper to her walls and why she felt Feather Flock was the perfect choice for her space.

Tempaper: How did you feel about your foyer space BEFORE adding Tempaper?

Suzannah: It was really boring before, and we had never fixed a few old nail holes, so it felt pretty run down to me, too. I didn’t really know what art to put there, and nothing made it feel special.

Tempaper: Was this the first time working with peel and stick wallpaper?

Suzannah: No, but it’s been a few years! And I have never used it on a full-height wall.

Tempaper: How did you choose your print for your small space?

Suzannah: I wanted something without too much color, but more interest than just white or black. I loved a couple of the colors that Feather Flock comes in! It also reminds me of the shapes of the original light fixture that is hanging in this little entry (our home was built in 1937)!

Tempaper: How long did it take you to install?

Suzannah: I installed it while watching one or both children so it took me Saturday plus a little bit of a Sunday, but if I had time to myself, it would have been much, much faster! It was really easy to do a little bit at a time because there’s no messy paste or complicated materials involved.

Tempaper: Did you install it by yourself?

Suzannah: Yes! With a toddler and/or 7-month-old nearby!

Tempaper: What are some tips about working in small spaces with peel and stick wallpaper?

Suzannah: I suggest mapping out a few panels before you choose where exactly to start. Think about where the pattern will end if there will be a join like wrapping around a four-sided room.

Tempaper: Do you have any tips for applying to corners?

Suzannah: I found it helpful to have as little excess as possible on corners. You sometimes have the option of how much to overlap, so in one place I actually lost a bit of wallpaper by overlapping an extra vertical return so that my little piece on the corner was narrower and thus easier to control.

Tempaper: How do you feel about your foyer space AFTER applying Tempaper?

Suzannah: I love it! It feels just perfect for our house and it feels like a magical little secret room, in between two plain white walls on either side! So fun!
