Why Wallpaper Samples Matter

There are plenty of reasons why a sample is highly recommended. They serve as invaluable tools in the design process, offering a practical and tangible means for individuals to assess, compare, and make well-informed decisions that contribute to the success of a design project.

Let’s dive into the reasons why ordering a sample for your rental is important.

Helps You See the Bigger Picture: Samples allow you to see how texture, color, or pattern will look in your space. This will help you make an informed decision.

Testing Compatibility: Visualize how a certain color complements furniture and how it looks under different lighting. This helps ensure coherence in design.

Texture and Feel: Some aspects of design, such as texture and feel, cannot be accurately conveyed through digital or catalog images. Samples allow you to touch and feel the wallpaper, ensuring that the chosen print aligns with your preference.

Color Accuracy: Colors can vary significantly between digital representations and the actual product. Samples provide a true representation of the color, so you can verify if it matches your vision and coordinates well with your space.

Quality Assessment: Examining a sample allows you to test the product's quality, determine how well it will stick to your intended surface, and remove with ease.

Aiding Decision-Making: Samples simplify the decision-making process by narrowing down choices and providing a hands-on experience, making it easier to confidently select the right wallpaper for your project.

Measuring and Prepping Your Wall

Before diving into the application process, take the time to measure and properly prep your surface. This ensures a seamless and professional-looking finish. Clean the wall surface thoroughly and use a measuring tape to determine the dimensions you'll need.

We recommend applying our wallpaper to smooth surfaces that are in good condition and have been primed and painted with a satin or semi-gloss finish.

We do not recommend applying Tempaper to matte, flat, and low sheen paints, textured surfaces, or exterior surfaces. If you will be applying to any other type of surface, it is best to order a sample and test the surface before starting your project.

Prep your surface by wiping with a damp cloth or wet rag, making sure it is fully dried before application. For an easier installation, remove switch plates and outlet covers prior to installation making sure to turn off electricity at source prior to removal.

If your surface has been painted with zero VOC paint, we recommend wiping your surface with a 1:1 Isopropyl alcohol and water solution first. This may help with adhesion and will clean any dust or debris off your surface. We also recommend this step if you are unsure what your walls have been painted with.

Tools You'll Need for Your Project

Gather your tools to make the application process as smooth as possible. You'll need a utility knife, a straight edge or ruler, a squeegee, and a level to ensure your wallpaper is straight. Having these essentials on-hand will make the entire project stress-free and more manageable.

How to Apply Peel and Stick Wallpaper

  1. Using a level, mark a vertical guide (also known as a plumb line) down the length of the surface.

    2. Peel back 3-4 ft. of the self-adhesive backing.

    3. Begin at the top edge aligning paper with your vertical guide or plumb line to ensure a straight application.

    4. Use a squeegee to smooth paper to surface working from the center out. (Note: Tempaper can be repositioned as needed to ensure pattern alignment and to eliminate any air bubbles.)

    5. Continue in 3–4-foot increments peeling and smoothing until you reach the bottom edge of your surface.

    6. Repeat steps 2-5 making sure to align the pattern with each panel until the surface has been fully covered.

    7. Trim where needed with a craft knife to complete your application.

Pro tip: Cutting the wallpaper to the correct size beforehand will save you time and frustration during installation.

Cleaning and Maintaining Peel and Stick Wallpaper

While peel and stick wallpaper is low maintenance, a little care goes a long way. Regular dusting or gentle wiping with a damp cloth can keep it looking fresh. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as they may damage the adhesive backing.

Safely Removing Wallpaper without Ruining Walls

When the time comes to move out or simply say goodbye to your peel and stick wallpaper, removal is a breeze.

Start from a corner and slowly peel it off your surface. If any adhesive residue remains, use a mild soapy water solution to gently wipe it away. This ensures clean removal without causing damage to your paint or surface.
