Do you have to prep walls for peel and stick wallpaper?

Yes, we recommend prepping your walls. Tempaper is recommended for smooth surfaces that are in good condition. You do not need a primer for your walls, but we do recommend applying our wallpaper to a surface that has been primed and painted with a satin or semi-gloss finish.

We do not recommend applying Tempaper & Co. to matte, flat, and low sheen paints, textured surfaces, or exterior surfaces.

Prep your walls by cleaning your intended surface with a damp cloth, making sure it is fully dried before application. This will keep your wallpaper from bubbling.

We always recommend using a 1:1 Isopropyl alcohol and water solution.

Will peel and stick wallpaper work on matte or flat paint?

Although we have seen successful applications and removals with flat paint, Tempaper & Co. is recommended for primed surfaces painted with eggshell, satin, or semi-gloss paint. Since we have water-based adhesives and inks, sometimes the chalkiness of the paint can marry to the inks causing a not-so-clean removal.

While our peel and stick wallpaper will work on painted walls, it is important that you allow your surface to fully cure before applying removable wallpaper to it. Follow the directions listed on your paint can, as curing times will vary among paint types.

If you would like to try to apply our removable wallpaper to a matte, flat, or textured surface, we recommend purchasing a sample first. Then, test your surface in a discreet area prior to starting a full application.

Samples ship for free and are available for purchase on each product page on our website.
