Tempaper transformed the interior design industry by inventing a product that did not exist. Peel and stick wallpaper can be applied to any smooth surface and removes cleanly without leaving residue behind.
As pioneers in the industry, Tempaper was started nearly 15 years ago. The company is proudly produced in the USA and ships from Brick, New Jersey, a small town on the Jersey Shore where co-founders and twin sisters Jennifer and Julia were born and raised.
Tempaper was invented after realizing that trade professionals, homeowners, and renters can benefit from the product. This fun and easy do-it-yourself home project was created for designers of all skill levels.
Jennifer and Julia have made it their mission to create an exceptional and affordable product that designers and DIY enthusiasts around the globe can enjoy in their space.
How it Started
Kate Szilva, Jennifer and Julia’s Aunt was working in set design in New York City. After realizing that it was costing too much time and money to apply and remove traditional wallpaper on set, the idea for peel and stick wallpaper was born.
While developing the product, Tempaper sourced a removable adhesive that would adhere to most smooth surfaces, including slightly textured walls and bathrooms.
This unique adhesive helps ensure that Tempaper products will stay on your walls for as long as you wish, but remove cleanly, allowing endless design possibilities for homeowners and renters alike.
The company was granted a utility patent on February 5, 2013, giving Tempaper proprietary ownership of their peel and stick, removable wallpaper product in the market. "I was determined to obtain a utility patent, as well as build and maintain strong relationships with our printers and manufacturers. Our business is a tight-knit family, so our success is their success. We are truly blessed to have created a unique product that is made in the U.S.A.," Julia Au, Co-Founder, and Chief Executive Officer.
Before Tempaper, designer wallpaper was associated with dreadfully long lead-times that would require a lot of patience and planning. It could almost only be purchased by the yard or through a design center.
Tempaper set out to change the game. It was decided early on that Tempaper would launch as an in-stock, point-of-purchase wallpaper so it was readily available and shipped immediately.
Excited and eager to share their new and innovative product, Jennifer and Julia walked store to store, pitching the wallpaper to retailers and stores in New York City.
A few of the first brick-and-mortar stores to sell Tempaper were Bobby Berk Home and Janovic Paint & Decorating Center.
The company’s first trade show debut was at Pier 94 at the New York International Gift Fair. The buzz about the product was evident; self-adhesive, removable wallpaper was very appealing. Decorators, designers, and retailers immediately began to seek it out.
After Tempaper began selling to designers, boutique brick and mortar stores and online retailers, the company was approached by Target to create an in-store program. This would bring the peel and stick wallpaper category to mainstream consumers and big box stores.
The launch in Target took place March of 2014 alongside Devine Color by Valspar. Tempaper then expanded to the Japanese market launching in 330 stores. Today, Tempaper is distributed in Canada, Japan, the UK and is sold in over 3,000 stores globally.
Through all the growth and expansion, Tempaper never lost sight of its roots and core values. We are committed to creating exceptional products for each extraordinary customer.

A Unique Printing Process
Tempaper is committed to offering customers the artisanal flair of traditional wallpaper with all the conveniences of peel and stick wallpaper. To help achieve this goal, a process called gravure printing is used, a different technique than most competitors.
This high-quality printing method is a form of intaglio copper plate printing. This method creates intricate designs that truly make an impact in your space. Additionally, this process is excellent for producing high-quality metallic and textured prints, which are often used throughout the collections.
Gravure printing allows Tempaper to remain true to the roots of traditional wallpaper making while supporting master printers, engravers and colorists who mix water-based inks by hand. Their keen eye and meticulous approach are evident in our product quality.
Fun Fact: Copperplate engraving has been used since the latter part of the 19th century.
Tempaper also prints digitally but that’s not all. Keep reading to learn more about our product offerings or visit our blog post, "What is Removable Wallpaper?" here.
Endless Options Available for You
From designs by the roll to prints by the panel, Tempaper prides itself on the diversity of products that are available to customers.
While most competitors do not offer custom wallpaper options, Tempaper allows customers the option to recolor any existing pattern or create their very own design.
- Single and Double Rolls: In stock and ready to ship, prints by the roll are a quick and easy way to incorporate gorgeous color and pattern into your space while reducing waste. Most competitors do not offer double rolls as an option. Double rolls are a cost-effective option since you receive more square footage for your money.
- Value Packs: Value Packs are a new option on Tempaper’s website. After receiving feedback from customers, it was realized that offering a bundle package would help minimize waste and provide a more affordable option for designers. Each pack also includes one Tempaper squeegee.
- Chinoiserie: Based on authentic, hand-painted designs from an artist in Shanghai, Tempaper offers high-quality, one-of-a-kind custom Chinoiserie removable wall murals. Sold by the square foot, customers can work with a designer from start to finish for a custom fit. Metallic gold leaf or matte backgrounds are available. - Pre-Sized Murals: One-of-a-kind landscape wall murals are larger than any single and double wallpaper roll, offering a truly immersive experience for customers to enjoy.
- Prints by the Panel: Tempaper prints are available in small and large panels, helping to ensure that you select the right size for your space. These are printed on a fabric self-adhesive wallpaper and will feel different than prints sold by the roll.
- Create Your Own Custom Wallpaper: This custom wallpaper option at Tempaper allows you the opportunity to create your very own design or recolor any available print.
- Tools and Accessories: Tempaper provides mostly everything you will need to complete your project.
Tempaper has been applied to bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms, entryways, laundry rooms, furniture, ceilings, stair risers, event spaces, retail displays and so much more. There’s no space too big or too small for Tempaper.
Two commonly asked questions from customers are, “will peel and stick wallpaper stick to textured walls and can peel and stick wallpaper be applied in a bathroom.” Yes, it can!

Applying Peel and Stick Wallpaper to Textured Walls
While most competitors’ products can’t adhere to textured surfaces, Tempaper products have been able to stick to orange peel surfaces of all kinds due to product durability. Learn how to cover textured walls with peel and stick wallpaper.
Fun fact: In Japan, most walls are wallpapered first then painted, resulting in a unique textured surface. Tempaper is one of the only peel and stick wallpaper products that can stick to the textured surfaces found in most Japanese homes.

Ordering a sample can help answer some of your top questions about peel and stick wallpaper:
- How will it look in my space? Due to color variances on computer and phone screens, there is nothing better than seeing the color and size of print in your own space. Natural and artificial lighting can also impact how a certain color will look in your room. Ordering a sample will help you determine if the color will complement your existing home decor.
- Will it work on my surface? Ordering a sample allows you the chance to live with the product for a few days and see how well it will stick to your intended surface. If applied correctly, Tempaper will stay up for as long as you would like.
- Is it easy to remove? After your sample has been on your surface for a few days, gently peel it away. Tempaper will remove cleanly, leaving no sticky residue behind. Additionally, it should not damage your walls or paint.
